Everyone who has ever searched the internet for information has definitely come across Wikipedia. From school goes to old people, everyone has made use of the free information available on Wikipedia. The online encyclopedia has information on anything and everything you might ever need of. Wikipedia is infact one of the greatest websites ever built on the internet. Unlike most other websites on the internet, Wikipedia does not make use of advertisements to generate revenue, instead it solely relies upon donations.
In terms of traffic, Wikipedia stands in the list of top 10 most visited sites in the world and if it were to display advertisements, it can easily rake in millions of dollars per month in terms of ad revenue. But jimmy wales, the noble founder of Wikipedia has no intention of displaying ads on wikipedia. Now coming to the point of this post, how many of you are aware that Wikipedia has a Theme song? It might come as a surprise, but wikipedia does has a theme song and it’s called “ Hotel Wikipedia”. Although it is not as official in the sense that it was adopted by its founders or cofounders, but Wikipedia’s meta wiki refer ” Hotel Wikipedia ” as their official theme song. And yes it is based on the Eagles hit 1978 song “ Hotel California “.
